As the holidays approach friends are asking for recommendations of great novels. They're flying or taking long road trips and want something absorbing and mindless they can listen to. I have so many favorite authors. Some are personal friends. Some were either my professors or my classmates at writers school. Still, right now there's one who stands out--Jonathan Maberry's Joe Ledger series. Jonathan is a New York Times best-selling and multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning suspense author, editor, comic book writer, magazine feature writer, playwright, content creator and writing teacher/lecturer. He was named one of the Today’s Top Ten Horror Writers. A credible author, in other words. He won't waste your time.
His Joe Ledger series features the Department of Military Sciences as a governmental take-out-the-trash kind of organization doing our nation's dirty work. Jonathan's carefully crafted characters, zippy dialog, and action scenes make this series perfect for passing the time on a long flight or in the car on a snowy highway. There are 11 books in the Ledger series. Patient Zero and Dragon Factory are the first two. Great starts. I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Ray Porter.
